You keep clicking back to that trial page. You close the tab. You open it again a few days later.
If you’ve been circling a pole class for weeks (or months or even years), wondering if it’s really for someone like you, you’re not alone. Almost every first timer who has ever walked through our doors at Achieve felt exactly the same way first.
The good news is you don’t have to take our word for what happens next. You can hear it from the students who were sitting right where you are now, before they booked.
Here’s what changed for them, in their own words.
I Was So Nervous to Start
Georgie had been thinking about pole for a while before she finally booked in. “As a complete beginner, I was very nervous to start but felt so welcomed from the get go,” she says. Nine months on, she describes her confidence as something that keeps growing, class after class.
That nervous feeling before your first class is normal. Almost everyone in the room felt it too, including the instructors teaching it.
Confidence Isn’t Something You Need Before You Start
One of the biggest myths about pole is that you need to already feel confident to try it. Lola found the opposite was true. “There was never a time where I felt unconfident or silly while I was learning, and the energy is always amazing in the room,” she says.
Confidence at Achieve isn’t a prerequisite. It’s something you build, one class at a time, in a room that doesn’t let you feel silly for trying.

Finding Herself Again as a New Mum
Sarah started pole as a new mum with a six month old at home, at a point where she felt she’d lost a bit of herself in the process of becoming a parent. She wanted her “me time” back, something that was entirely hers.
“I became obsessed and I love the feeling of freedom and joy of movement it brings to my life,” she says. She’s not chasing who she was before. She’s building something new, just for her.

It’s Never Too Late to Start
A recurring theme in our reviews is age, and how little it actually matters once you’re in the room. Karen joined in her late 40s, well after most of her classmates had started. “I’m more confident and I feel great about myself,” she says of her first year on the pole.
Mariko at age 50 echoes the same thing. Whatever age or stage you’re starting from, the studio is built for you to arrive exactly as you are.

The Community Made It Stick
Confidence rarely grows in isolation. It grows in a room full of people cheering you on. Isabella puts it simply: “I honestly could not imagine my life without this beautiful, supportive and kind community. My only regret is not starting pole and joining Achieve earlier than I did.”
That’s the part that surprises most new students. You come for pole class. You stay for the people.
The Power of Saying “I Can”: Achieving Confidence with Pole Dancing

What This Means for You
A few things stand out across every one of these stories. Nobody felt ready before they started. Confidence showed up after they walked through the door, not before. And the community carried them through the moments they wanted to quit.
If you’ve been telling yourself you’ll book “when you’re fitter” or “when you’re less nervous,” these women would tell you that’s not how it works. You start as you are, and everything else follows.
We’d love to welcome you. Come try it for yourself with our 2 For 1 Trial: Two Intro2Pole classes over two weeks, no pressure, no experience required.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I need to be confident before I start pole dancing?
No. Most Achieve students say their confidence grew after they started, not before. The class is built to help you feel safe and supported from your very first session.
I'm nervous about trying my first class. Is that normal?
Completely normal. Nearly every student who has walked through our doors felt nervous first. That feeling usually disappears after a few classes.
Is pole dancing only for people who are already fit or flexible?
Absolutely not! Our students arrive at every fitness and flexibility level, and the classes are designed to meet you exactly where you’re at.
What age is best to try pole dancing at Achieve?
All ages. Some of our most confident students joined in their 40s and beyond. There’s no cut off, and no such thing as too late.
